My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Apache

Apache is a mellow, loyal German Shepherd with a gentle soul and a heart that opens slowly—but deeply. He may take a little time to bond, but once he knows you’re his person and he’s finally home, he’ll be right by your side, soaking up cuddles and companionship.

Apache is fully house-trained, and has done well with other dogs both here at the shelter and in his temporary foster home. He’s not a high-maintenance guy—he just wants a calm, steady home where he can relax.

He has shown some curiosity (and vocal opinions!) toward cats, so a cat-free home might be easiest, though with a slow and thoughtful introduction, coexisting might be possible. He would do best in a home with one or two people, without children!

Like a true German Shepherd, Apache can be a bit barky, especially when alerting you to what he thinks you should know— just your classic GSD guardian instincts on display.

Apache is looking for a quiet home where he can enjoy daily walks, soft beds, steady routines, and a person to lean on. If you’re patient, loving, and looking for a loyal companion who will repay your kindness with endless affection, Apache might just be your guy.

Additional adoption info

We do our best to match the animal with the most suitable home possible. Sometimes adopters choose an animal that has needs beyond what they will be able to provide, and we'll recommend a different pet more suited to their home. We check landlord requirements, if any, and we check vet references. We may request a home visit for animals with special needs.

Go meet their pets

Our Adoption Center is open Tuesday-Friday, 11 to 4 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM. The public is welcome to visit during those hours. We do attend offsite special events and take some of our adoptable dogs. These are usually publicized via social media, www.facebook.com/sarges.

More about this rescue

Sarge’s animals are usually taken directly from the Haywood County Animal Control facility. They are all tested for heart worm or Feline Leukemia/FIV, given appropriate vaccinations and preventatives for heart worms and fleas, spayed/neutered and dogs are microchipped. They are socialized as time permits and many have been taught basic commands. We enjoy placing animals into loving and responsible homes, and we appreciate that our adopters have sought out rescue animals.
