UPDATE: Velvet is one of over a dozen cats in need of dental procedures. We are in the process of raising the funds required to make certain they all get the medical attention they need and deserve. Unfortunately the procedures are costly, but necessary. The sooner we raise the funds the sooner each cat can get the relief they deserve. If you’d like to make a donation to Velvet please go to: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/dental-project-relief For additional information about Velvet please call (269) 209-7278 and leave a detailed message.
ABOUT Velvet: She is soft with shiny black fur. She looks like she is wearing a small white locket on her chest. She’s a shy cat who is looking for her special someone who will work with her and show her what love is. She just needs someone to earn her trust again. Velvet needs to live with a well seasoned cat owner. Because of her shy nature and length of time she's spent in a shelter, she will need someone well skilled in acclimating her to a new home. This requires time and patients. It typically requires the cat be confined to one small area of the house. Baby steps are necessary to slowly allow more and more access to the entire house. So, as you can see, Velvet needs someone who has experience with shy cats. They need more time to adjust to a new surrounding, maybe even a few months (speaking from experience.) She is best suited in a home with NO small children. I have discovered the way to Velvet's heart... treats. With treats in hand, she enjoys affection. The shelter can be a bit overwhelming for our quieter cats. Velvet will have the opportunity to relax and be herself once she is in a quiet home where she feels like she can let her guard down. Velvet has been in the shelter for over five years. She is overlooked because of her quiet, shy nature. You can often find her with the tip of her tongue hanging out. It’s actually kind of cute. Love and affection in a safe, quiet home is all she needs to be herself again. The rewards of bonding with a cat like Velvet make it well worth the wait. Spayed, vaccinated and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Adoption fee is $75.00.
Date of birth: 01/25/2015 Good with other cats = Yes Good with dogs = Unknown Good with children = No Housetrained = Yes

More about this shelter
Companion Cats is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization made up of volunteers. Our mission is to spay or neuter and find suitable homes for unowned cats, thus ending the suffering of abandoned and homeless cats living on the streets.
Once spayed our goal is to place them in an environment that best fits each cat. This method provides the most humane living situation possible. Both friendly and feral alike deserve the perfect forever home. If the cat is not very friendly but is homeless, perhaps this means being a “Barn Buddy” or being introduced into a controlled colony. If feral kittens are found, it might mean living in a volunteer foster home where they can be socialized until old enough to be tested for FIV & FeLV, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated prior to adoption
