My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Poppy!

Poppy is a 3 year old hound mix with the sweetest soul and the biggest heart. She’s been with her foster since May learning what it means to be a family dog and now she’s officially ready to find her forever home!

Poppy is truly a dream. She loves her people deeply and forms strong bonds with those she trusts. With new people, she can be a bit shy at first, but once she realizes she’s safe, she blossoms into the most affectionate, loyal companion. She’s also wonderful with other animals, both dogs and cats. She’s a proud porch dog, a happy snuggler, and she finds comfort in her crate.

Before rescue, Poppy spent time as a stray and was also a devoted mama dog. Even after a tough beginning, she was smart and brave enough to seek help from humans. And thankfully, they were kind ones who helped her and her puppies get to safety.

Adjusting to home life took some time, especially when it came to learning how to be on a leash. It was something completely new to her, but with patience and positive experiences, she now enjoys going on adventures. She may not love the bustle of the city, but quiet hikes and peaceful forest walks are her happy place.

Poppy is scheduled for a checkup during the second week of December, after which she’ll be ready to go home. After everything she’s been through, she deserves stability, gentleness, and a family who will love her endlessly and we’re hopeful we can find exactly that.

If you think Poppy could be the perfect addition to your home, please fill out a pre adopt form!

More about this rescue

Founded in 1995, Georgia Heartland Humane Society is built on the belief that all life is sacred and every animal deserves a pain-free, peaceful existence. We are a nonprofit, entirely funded by public generosity — receiving no government assistance — and supported by strong community and business partnerships. While we do not operate a shelter, we provide vital services to local residents and their companion animals. Our dedicated volunteers share a passion for finding loving homes for every pet and work tirelessly toward that goal through community service programs.
