My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hello world! Meet Willy Nelson, aka Rocky: This young man has had a rocky start in his short life but is turning into a rock-solid dog despite it. Through no apparent fault of his own, Rocky was dumped on the street. He did not have any identification and no one has stepped forward to claim. Someone familiar with the situation claims that they saw his former owners dump him and leave. We are determined to keep that from happening again and would like to help him find a soft permanent place to land forever.

This sweet boy has been exposed to young children and other dogs and has interacted with them wonderfully. Rocky has been curious with his foster’s cats but easily redirects with a simple “no”. He has adjusted to a kennel during the day, but prefers to climb in bed to snuggle with the rest of the pack for bed.  House training is a work in progress, but Rocky is smart and has been catching on quickly with frequent potty breaks. Since Rocky has been with his foster, they have been working on leash training, and he is learning basic commands. He is a proper, polite gentleman and has naturally great manners. His current foster has a large property and he has had no issues with staying close when off leash. He has shown no possession or food aggression. He is very playful and has lots of energy as he should. Rocky is approximately 7 months old, neutered, heart worm negative, dewormed, up to date on vaccines.

If you think that Rocky is the right fit for you, please fill out an application at the following link: https://www.saveastray.org/forms/form?formid=3635 Save a Stray pets are in foster homes.  Please complete an application at www.saveastray.org to make arrangements to meet our pets.  This pet has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and is on heartworm and flea prevention.  Adoption fee is $175 if local and $500 if transport is needed. If you are interested in meeting one or our pets please complete an adoption application at saveastray.org or email info@saveastray.org if you have a question.  Thank you for considering adding a homeless pet to your family.

More about this rescue

Save a Stray strives to enrich the lives of pets in Mobile County through spay/neuter programs, providing vet care to shelter pets, and including shelter pets a risk youth groups.

Spay/neutering pets help to decrease the number of pets entering our shelter. By providing vet care to shelter pets healthier pets can be adopted by individuals or pulled by rescue groups. This program will also help decrease vetting expenses of rescue groups. Training programs with shelter pets and at risk youth increase the self esteem of the youth and make the pet more adoptable. A pet that knows a few basic commands is more likely to be adopted, become a family member, and remain in the home.
