Takis is a 6-year-old orange charmer who is just beginning to discover what it means to be loved and cared for. He came to BARCS from a stressful hoarding situation, and while the world still feels a little new to him, his foster family has been delighted to watch him slowly come out of his shell.
During the day, Takis is a chill and curious boy who enjoys finding cozy spots to nap and quietly observing the household. But at night, his playful side comes alive—his foster often wakes up to find toys (and sometimes even his bed!) moved to new spots, proof of his late-night adventures. His favorite pastime so far is scratching and playing on his post, though he’s beginning to explore toys and games as he grows more comfortable.
Takis is still learning to trust human touch, but he recently started letting his foster family pet him—a huge milestone that shows his growing confidence and desire for connection. With time, patience, and love, this curious orange kitty is sure to blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion.
Because he came from a difficult past, Takis will thrive in a patient home that allows him to adjust at his own pace. He’s very curious and loves to explore when he feels safe, so his ideal family will give him the space to observe and the encouragement to keep opening up.
Takis is litter trained (though a little messy at times), enjoys wet and softened dry food, and is managing a chronic condition called stomatitis. This doesn’t stop him from living life fully—it just means he’ll need some ongoing TLC to keep him comfortable.

Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out our Shelter Adoption Application with your information. You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.
Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!
Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.
