My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GOLDEN BACHELOR ALERT!! Hello, my name is Valor and I'm a handsome hopeless romantic seeking a second chance at love!

I found myself in a pickle when my owner passed away and our house was auctioned off with me and my mama dog still inside. The new owner was quite surprised to find us squatting there! My mama dog and I had been together my entire life, but sadly she had very late term osteosarcoma. I was alone in the shelter for the first time in my 10 year life, and I didn't handle it well. Luckily I was scooped up and landed in a foster home with a big pack of dogs to hang out with! There are all kinds here from 15 year old ancient cocker spaniels to 10 month old chaos huskies. Do you have a bunch of dogs already? That's ok with me - the more the merrier!! I fully integrated into this pack of 7 within an hour of arriving like I've always been here. I don't guard anything. I'll sleep wherever the other dogs sleep and I go where they go. Unlike most dogs, I prefer not to dine alone. I will go to my designated spot with the other dogs and I don't steal anyone's dinner.

I have fabulous manners as long as another dog is with me. I don't counter surf or get into things I shouldn't. I'm low energy. I'm just happy to be alive and want to be in your proximity. I like to sleep, snuggle, observe other dog's shenanigans, and hold a stuffy in my mouth. I do great in the car. I love short walks and I won't pull you around. I'm a true gentleman at the vet and a really, really good boy. I make huskies look good! I have containment anxiety and crates aren't safe for me (even if medicated), but I don't chew or get into things, and I do well free-roaming as long as I have dog friends with me.

I am generally healthy with some typical senior dog issues. I have a beautiful fur coat, good teeth and ears. When I came to rescue I had hind end weakness due to really old CCL tears in my back legs. This has improved significantly with monthly Adequan injections so that is something I will need to continue.

Are you falling for me? Got a couch and a dog (or 7) to share with me? I'd love to spend my sunset years with you. Fill out an application and mention Valor!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our Adoption Process

After you submit your adoption application, a Taysia Blue volunteer will contact you within 2-3 days. We are most interested in which type dog will be a good fit for you and your family and the other pets in your home. We will contact your references. This may take a couple days depending on the availability of the reference. We will also contact you by phone to learn more about the dog you're looking for and to review the current available dogs in our rescue.

We will schedule an appointment for a home visit where we will bring one to three dogs that would be a good fit for your family. If a match is made, we can complete the adoption process at that time. If we don't find the perfect match, we'll keep trying till we do!

We hope that your home is the very last stop on the dog's journey and we do all we can to help you and your dog make the transition easier, including providing you with an information packet loaded with tips and resources.

Our quality standard vet care is as follows:

• Spay/Neuter - All dogs will be spayed or neutered prior to being adopted.

• Heartworm Test - If the heartworm test is negative, the dog is placed on regular heartworm preventative. If the heartworm test is positive, the dog is treated to eradicate the heartworms and then placed on regular heartworm
preventative.

• Rabies vaccination

• DHP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo) vaccination

• Bordatella (kennel cough) vaccination

• Flea and tick preventative

• Microchip

Our adoption donation requirements are as follows:

• Puppies 6 months of age or younger require a donation of $350.

• Dogs over 6 months and under 8 years old require a donation of $300.

• Dogs 8 years and older require a donation of $250.

More about this rescue

Taysia Blue Siberian Husky Rescue in Nebraska is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our all volunteer mission provides a network to shelter, rehabilitate and re-home Siberian huskies in Eastern Nebraska who are displaced, abused, neglected, abandoned or surrendered by their owners. Our goal is to place these dogs in loving, permanent and carefully screened homes.

We also provide education about the characteristics of the Siberian husky and responsible dog ownership. We offer a forum for Siberian husky and other Northern breed enthusiasts to meet and play.

We receive no public subsidies and are funded solely through donations by adopters and supporters. We envision a day when all companion animals no longer face inhumane treatment, abandonment or perish in shelters, a day when there are no more homeless pets.

Siberian Huskies are beautiful. It's hard not to fall in love with their fluffy coats and gorgeous eyes, it's hard not to laugh at their antics and marvel at their independent intelligence. But with the fur comes the shedding, with the antics comes possible destruction and with the independence and intelligence comes a rather nomadic Houdini of a dog that wants to escape and run for the fun of it. Often these dogs are adopted by people who are not prepared for the very traits they were attracted to. Some husky owners are not prepared for the amount of energy these dogs have and the exercise they require. They are intelligent, but often easily bored and not easy to train, they can be stubborn and mischievous. Please research this breed carefully before you choose to adopt a Siberian husky.
