My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The sweetest girl! Harriett is timid with people she doesn’t know well (more timid with men than women), but with soft spoken and treat enhanced work she begins to open up well. She loves everyone in the home but will likely imprint on one person as her safe space. She LOVES kids! She has been around children ranging from 6 months-12 years old and gives all of the kisses. Harriett walks well on leash (no pulling and usually walks alongside you loose leash), but she thrives in open space yards. Alongside a furry friend, she will show you how fast her zoomies can go! In the house, she has low-moderate energy. Her favorite place has been on our ottoman with a plush blanket. For active play she reaches for all things stuffy and, for lounging (she is a couch potato!) and relaxing, she will pull up a tasty bone to munch on. This sweet girl does have some anxiety, so always having options to munch on are beneficial (especially when crated). Because of being a little anxious, it is best to have her crated when using a vacuum or tools that may be loud. Harriett is 99% house trained! The only accidents she ever has is if she becomes scared, so the crate gives her that safe spot she knows she won’t be hurt by the scary vacuum! The only thing is Harriett won’t notify you with cries that she needs to potty because she is not very vocal, but with a good outside/potty schedule she knows what to do. With her not being very vocal, she is not a barker. We have only heard her bark a few times! It is usually only if strangers come into the home, and she is caught off guard. If you sit on the floor with her she will likely crawl up into your lap for head and belly scratches. She is just suuuuper affectionate! Harriett will thrive in a home with at least one other 4-legged companion to bond with (no cats is best, but she is very dog friendly), a fenced in yard, and a patient family to work with her. She will also do well with a family with moderate energy. Walks on the leash and playtime in the backyard keep Harriett a happy, tired girl. It takes a little work to see her open up but once she does, she has a gentle, beautiful personality, will show you she is worth the wait, and be an incredible furry best friend.

More about this rescue

At Shelters and Shelves, we firmly believe that all dogs deserve a second chance at finding their happily ever after. The dogs we rescue have all been marked as “urgent”, placing them at highest risk should the shelter reach kennel capacity. There is nothing inherently wrong with any of them; most are simply passed over based on scant first impressions or appearance. Some are medical cases that need time and space to recover outside of the stressful shelter environment. Others have a harder time finding families due to specific needs in a new home. All of them, however, have the perfect home somewhere out there waiting for them; they just need a little more time (and a little extra help) to find it. We make sure their story doesn't end at the shelter.
