Meet Hazel, an absolutely delightful "Pocket Pyr" with a gorgeous, long, soft fur coat and a heart full of love! This sweet Pyr mix is, in her foster mom's words, "a gem - just a delightful, joyful, and affectionate dog!" Hazel is a very smart girl who learned to use the doggie door in just minutes, is fully housebroken, and walks well on leash. She's crate trained and handles her work-day crate time like a champ with a stuffed Kong to keep her happy. With medium to low activity levels, Hazel is the perfect balance of playful and relaxed - she loves walks in the woods and adventures, but she's equally content snuggling up next to you for pets and belly rubs. She's completely trustworthy and has excellent house manners, sleeps wherever she likes at night, and listens well to redirection. Hazel is GREAT with other dogs and loves to play with her canine companions, plus she adores the resident kitten and considers the little furball her best buddy! While she's slightly shy when meeting new people initially, she's a social dog overall and warms up quickly to folks of any age (including kids!). Hazel knows how to sit for treats, enjoys both indoor and outdoor time, and loves attention, scratches, brushing, and playing with plushy and chew toys. Her favorite snacks? Anything and everything - cheese, bread, pizza crust - this girl is not picky! Her ideal home would include other dogs, a secure 4.5-foot fenced yard, and a somewhat active couple or single person who can give her the love and attention she craves - and if there's a kitten involved, that would be the cherry on top!

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
