My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mikey is a ten-month-old, 46-pound shepherd mix that was surrendered to a shelter because they were moving. It’s a shame they couldn’t take him with them, but luckily, he barely made it out of the shelter, and we have him now. Mikey is sweet and calm for a young dog. He is playful with other dogs and loves everyone. Mikey is house-trained and crate-trained. If you would like to foster or adopt Mikey, please go to www.atlantalabrescue.com and apply.

From the Foster: Mikey has a heart as big as his paws. This affectionate boy loves nothing more than being close to his people, and he will happily curl up in your lap if you let him. Mikey is an easygoing companion who can match your lifestyle. He is just as content being a loyal work-from-home buddy as he is joining you for an outdoor adventure or a jog. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has ignored cats on walks. His idea of a perfect day is relaxing in the grass, chewing on a stick, and enjoying your company nearby. Mikey is crate trained, walks nicely on leash, and is highly food motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding. He is still growing into his body and would thrive with additional training as he matures.

More about this rescue

Atlanta Lab Rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit (501-c3) organization, whose volunteers have years of rescue experience. Our mission is to identify and rescue Labrador Retrievers and large breed mixes from overwhelmed shelters and abusive situations and place them in secure, loving homes. We average 30-40 dogs in the program at any given time and in our first 10 years, we have rescued over 3500 dogs.

Prior to an Atlanta Lab Rescue dog being adopted, each dog undergoes an extensive examination by our veterinarians, including a comprehensive blood profile, is updated on all vaccinations, spayed or neutered and micro chipped. Health issues that require additional treatment such as heartworms, surgery, etc, are addressed prior to adoption. In addition, each adoption includes free access to our Atlanta Lab Rescue trainer. At Atlanta Lab Rescue we firmly believe that a healthy, well trained dog is the key to the successful integration of a rescued dog and ensures a wonderful, loving companion for years to come.
