My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET NARA!

This sweet and spicy, tabby girl was rescued from Devore shelter in July of 2018 when she was about 4.5 months old. She has gobs of energy, but not having other kittens to play with when she was really little meant that she didn't quite learn “how to cat”.

Nara made great strides in foster care, learning how to be a kitty from all her foster brothers and sisters! She plays very rough, often pinning her foster siblings to the ground during their wrestling matches, and bounding through the house chasing everyone around like a maniac. While she gets along with some of the other playful kitties in her foster home, she can be a little much for some to take and she can be hot and cold with who she chooses to want to play with. For this reason, she may do well with another equally playful kitty who will tolerate her sass, or she might be happy as an only cat as long as her people can give her a lot of outlets and attention to direct her energy to.

Nara climbs and likes to be up high. She loves chasing her spring toys, the laser light, and loves to play with the wand toy. When she gets a burst of energy, she gets crazy eyes and will sometimes growl and hiss, but don’t mistake that for aggression- that’s usually her way of communicating that she needs some high energy play time! She also knows exactly what she wants…even if what that is changes from second to second. One minute she’s loving the pets and the play time and the next minute she’ll tell you she’s had quite enough, thank you very much. She can get a little mouthy when she plays, so kids and adults who aren’t cat savvy probably won’t be a good match for her. Once she gets all that spicy energy out though, Nara will happily snuggle on the couch with you and purr while you scratch her chin!

Nara can experience stress when she doesn't have her "me time". She does need a more subdued home with adults who are more on the low key side. When Nara is stressed out she can develop urinary blockage and UTI symptoms that require veterinary care. She is currently on a prescription diet for urinary tract health that also addresses the underlying anxiety causes. She would need to continue this diet in her new home.

Nara is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. If Nara sounds like the perfect combination of sugar, spice, and everything nice, fill out an application to adopt her today!

More about this rescue

Kitty Devore Rescue is a close-knit, all-volunteer nonprofit founded in 2011 with one heartfelt mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and kittens from Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, CA, and surrounding areas. When we began, only a handful of cats ever made it out of the shelter alive. Today, because of our relentless dedication and the shared efforts of fellow rescue partners, that save rate has soared to nearly 90%.

We’re not a shelter—we’re a foster-based family. Each cat we save lives in the loving care of one of our foster guardians, spread across Southern California and beyond, until they’re ready to meet their forever person. Our volunteers balance careers, families, school, and life’s many demands, yet still pour their hearts into rescue work every single day. For many of us, this isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are.

Every adoption is a promise fulfilled. Every donation fuels another chance. And every cat we place in a warm, devoted home is a story of hope come true—for them and for the people who welcome them.

At Kitty Devore Rescue, we believe every life matters, and every cat deserves to be safe, cherished, and loved for a lifetime.
