My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Animal Profile: Charlie is an estimated 4- to 5-year-old Lab Great Pyrenees mix (DNA confirmed) who was taken in by a good samaritan after she was abandoned at a property when her "owners" moved away. She was an under socialized, underweight, fearful outdoor dog but showed great resilience and capacity to bond and love with her new caretaker. She is now healthy, vetted, and ready to find a family to call her own.

Charlie has been very receptive to training and currently lives with 5- and 9-year-old boys who she adores and two other dogs who have helped her learn the ropes. Though Charlie enjoys the company of children and is friendly meeting them, we will be seeking a home with adults or older, dog-savvy children due to resource guarding behaviors stemming from her history of abandonment and breed tendencies that will need management in a home environment. Charlie should be fed in her crate and high-value objects should not be taken from her without warning/command or she can be protective of her resources (growling/snapping). She has made great strides in this department and we are confident that, with continued relationship-based training, these behaviors will continue to diminish.

Charlie is well suited to an active lifestyle and it's apparent that she wants a primary person to bond with. She walks very nicely on leash and is well attuned to her handler; she'd likely make a great running companion. That said, she isn't "high energy" and does settle well in the home, even without a ton of daily exercise. Charlie is now house trained, crate trained, and does not exhibit separation anxiety. Charlie will thrive with a large guardian breed savvy family with a secure yard, with or without canine companions, and older dog-savvy children; she has not been tested with cats.

Adoption Info: The adoption fee is $400, which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, flea/tick treatment, deworming, and microchip with lifetime registration. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization.

Animal History: Charlie was acquired as a puppy (unknown history) by an individual who had her as an outside dog, and then abandoned her; she was taken in by a good samaritan on Bainbridge Island in January 2025 and is now available for adoption in the greater Seattle area.
