My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you ready to welcome two exceptional, sweet creatures into your life? Gingham (black tuxedo, f) and Houndstooth (spotted tabby, f) are kittens from the Plaid litter, and have bonded together greatly since they came to their foster home. When the foster has described these girls to people, she says they are two “very good” kittens. While, yes, ALL kittens are perfect angels and occasionally bringers of kittenish chaos, these two are really something! Both kittens are sweet, playful and active (like all kittens), but also extremely affectionate and gentle. Their foster can hold them like little babies while they purr away, and they are used to having their paws and bellies touched (useful for future nail trimming sessions). These two are not ankle-biters, they don’t seem interested in human food or high-up surfaces, they love their litter box, they chirp and follow you from room to room once they’re safe and settled in their new home, and have even slept through the night (it’s true!).

Their distinct personalities are beginning to show, too. Gingham is a serious empath – One day, her foster mom was feeling sad, and Gingham seemed to understand it, nuzzling up next to her person and even licking her face and napping on her chest to help her feel better. It was too sweet! She is a confident girl who knows what she wants, will follow her foster from room to room, sleep above her person’s head every night, and walk away and do her own thing when Houndstooth wants to keep playing. It seems like she will likely grow into a calm, observant, and confident cat. Houndstooth is classic kitten vibes – a little chaos, a little trouble, a little attention seeking, and a LOT of affection and sweetness. She will purr when you look at her, and is, besides being a total sweetie with endless spunk and play in her, totally BEAUTIFUL. Her spots and occasional tabby striping are so striking. She can mellow out, too, and seems to take cues from Gingham when/if she feels nervous adjusting to new surroundings.

Whoever takes these bonded babies home will be making two sweet and loyal lifelong friends. Will you be there forever person??

More about this rescue

The Milo Foundation is an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found.

Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation Sanctuary is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. The Milo Sanctuary animals typically (but not exclusively) are harder to adopt animals and those needing more rural type homes, such as dogs with social or behavioural challenges, feral cats, horses and other farm animals. The Milo Point Richmond Adoption Center is where the majority of our new rescue intake takes place, typically friendly, adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens rescued from shelters where they were facing euthanasia. The Sanctuary is where highly active or reactive dogs can go and have plenty of space, other canine companions (if they are dog friendly) and live in a stress free environment until such time as the right adoption match can be found.

The Milo Sanctuary is what enables Milo to be a No-Kill organization. Milo brings dogs back and forth from the Adoption Center (MPR) to the Sanctuary to give dogs a break from the stresses of the kennel environment and back to MPR later to try again at being adopted. Potential adopters also do come up to the Sanctuary to adopt, by appointment.
