My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Calvin’s early life was full of hardship, but you’d never guess it from his wild, adventurous, and outgoing spirit. He was rescued from the streets of Northridge on a road called Calvin Street—hence his name. A kind neighbor had been feeding his mother and her litter but tragically, coyotes took the rest of Calvin’s litter. Calvin was the only one to survive, and with the help of a rescue team, he was safely trapped and brought to a loving foster home.

Calvin was incredibly frightened when he was first rescued, but with time, patience, and care, he has made remarkable progress. While he still needs a patient adopter to help him continue his socialization journey, his playful, bold personality grows brighter every day—proof of just how far love can bring a little survivor like him.

From the moment he settled in and felt safe, it was clear—Calvin is a confident, independent kitten who loves to play hard. He’s usually the one to kick off wrestling matches with his best friend, Phoenix, and is always ready to zoom through tunnels, chase toys, and “hunt” the teaser wand before proudly parading off with his latest “kill.” Both boys love a good hunt, but Calvin is definitely the more competitive of the two!

While Calvin can happily entertain himself, his affectionate side is just as charming. On certain days, he’ll decide it’s “follow-you-everywhere” time—trailing behind you, asking for pets, and curling up beside you when you settle down, all the while purring like a tiny motor. And don’t even think about leaving him out of the fun—if a door closes and he finds himself stuck on the wrong side, you’ll hear a big, dramatic meow letting you know he’d much rather be with his people and his kitty friends.

Calvin and Phoenix, KRLA-A-86442, are a bonded pair who balance each other perfectly—Calvin’s bold, high-energy antics match beautifully with Phoenix’s gentle, affectionate nature. They must be adopted together and are looking for a home that will give them the patience, love, and playtime they both deserve.

Additional adoption info

We adopt animals to homes in the Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.

To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Kitten Rescue. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. First, we ask that you complete our Adoption Questionnaire at kittenrescue.org/cat-adoption-form/. You can complete the form online or you may stop by a weekly adoption event to complete form in person. Second, a home visit or a home delivery of the cat or kitten is also required as part of our adoption process.

The Kitten Rescue adoption fee is $150 for a kitten or cat up to 10 years old, and $100 for each additional kitten or cat to the same household ($250 if you adopt a pair). Cats above 10 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, for an adoption fee of $75 each.

All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped

More about this rescue

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA.

Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 2,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.
