My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ATTENTION:  All of our dogs are in private foster homes.  We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs.  If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to www.secondchancedogrescue.org and complete an application.    We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt.

Meet Churro!  Churro is a 54 pound, under 2 year old Shepherd mix.  He is the sweetest pup you will meet .  He was returned recently due to no fault of his own.    He lived with 3 small children who he loved, but due to him getting bursts of energy and wanting to play with their mini horses, he is back.  He is a very smart boy and listens very well, so he will be very easy to train.  He really wants to please.  And he always comes when called.  He had never been walked on a leash, so would get overly excited when seeing dogs out in the wild and had some leash reactivity.   He went to a two week training camp where he is now a certified good boy!   He did e collar training which he has been very responsive to and now is a pleasure to walk.  He will need someone who is dedicated to continuing his training to keep him on track.  He loves to snuggle and will happily plop down on your and roll around to get comfortable.  And he is total dead weight if you try to move him as he doesn’t want to leave your side.   He also loves to run and play.  He can play with toys independently or run with his foster sister in the yard.   He definitely gets bursts of energy and runs around fast.  He would do well with an active owner who enjoys playing, walking him, or taking him on adventures.  In the home, he gets along with all the pets.  There are three small dogs he’s fine with who ignore him and one doodle mix his size he plays with.  We recently had a 7 month old high energy poodle/terrier mix stay for the week and they played nonstop, which can be a bit much.  I think something like a fun kitten would be better.  There are also two cats and a bunny in the home he is super chill around.   He does seem to want to play with the chickens in the coop though.   Churro has never met a person he doesn’t like.  He absolutely loves everyone.  He greets the contractors working here every day and is seen playing tug of war with them, happily wagging his tail. He also loves the pool man when he comes. He’s even great at the vet getting shots.  He’s good in the car, but seems a little nervous on rides, which is probably why he lays in place so well.   He even takes treats gently.   He is such a great dog who will thrive in a home where he is given attention and where he will be given guidance to be the best boy he can be.  When he gets his bursts of energy, he is kind of a bull in a china shop, so would do better in a home with older children.  Although the 2 year old in his previous home could lay on him as he’s such an easy going guy.  He does fine in a kennel and is comfortable sleeping in one.  He is also house trained.   So if you are looking for a happy go lucky, super awesome, sweet pup who is completely house trained, please apply for Churro.   He is waiting for his forever family this time.   He deserves it.. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and is microchipped.  His adoption fee is $300.

All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption.   Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs,   vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to  www.secondchancedogrescue.org  and complete an application today!    All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

Additional adoption info

We require an Adoption Questionnaire to be completed - whether online or in person - before meeting any of our dogs. Upon approval of the Questionnaire, a potential adopter will be required to complete an Adoption Contract and pay adoption fees. All of our adoptions start with the first 2 weeks as a 'trial' period, to ensure the adoption is a good fit. Adoption of a puppy may require a refundable training deposit, which will be refunded upon completion of training with a Certfied dog trainer, and submission of certificate of completion to our office.

More about this rescue

Second Chance Dog Rescue was formed to fulfill a desperate need in the community to Rescue, Rehabilitate & Re-home homeless dogs from the over-crowded local shelters, and from families who can no longer take care of their dogs (on a case-by-case basis only).

Our program is based on foster care, and all rescued dogs spend their first days at a loving foster home where they receive personalized care. As part of our program, we ensure that all dogs are vaccinated, are spayed or neutered, and have been socialized by their foster family. In addition, Second Chance Dog Rescue provides support for potential new owners and monitors progress for both new pet parents and their adopted dogs. This helps guarantee that our dogs go to good, loving, forever homes.
