My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coco...sweet Coco...
45 lb Coco joined us from an overcrowded South Texas shelter where she lived in a tiny jail cell since March. One of our volunteers sent us a video of her laying flat on the ground outside of her kennel, wagging her tail, begging not to go back in one day after she had fun in the play yard. A lot of rescue work is being tough, it's a lot of "no's" when you want to say "yes", but Coco's video broke our hearts.

We begged our team, who, as South Texas rescuers are always bursting at the seams with dogs, families, full time jobs, just like all of us. One offered to foster, another offered to pick her up, and she left the shelter.

Now, as for Coco- she's a DREAM. She coexists wonderfully with chickens and other dogs. She has also been around cats and did fine. Coco rarely barks, LOVES to cuddle on the couch, and plays well with others. She is really happy just to run around the yard and be a part of the family (older kids, lots of dogs). Coco is grateful and she shows it.

Medical wise- it's only up from here! In classic South Texas shelter fashion she's carrying around heartworms, but that isn't anything we aren't used to. She's already over halfway done with treatment and we will see that through in Meridian. It's not contagious, and we can answer all of the questions about it, so don't be shy. She's been on a good diet with supplements, so her once mangey skin is now clean, healthy, and she's growing a beautiful, thick, shepherd coat over her once bald spots. Coco has beautifully clean teeth! Coco has a congenial defect where, as explained to us, two spots on her spine developed with too much space between the vertebrae, leaving her body to naturally fuse those spots. Because of this, she has a permanent head tilt and slight hump to her back. Overall it doesn't bother her unless she is playing very rough, or over does it on exercise, then she needs a little pain management to make sure she is feeling her best.

It's her turn to be loved and spoiled. She craves being a normal dog that is included and loved. She would do great as an only dog, as well as an addition to a pack. With enough snuggles, she will be happy anywhere!

HW treatment, spay, microchip, and current vaccines are all included in her adoption fee. Please start with the adoption app: freedomboundhounds.com/adopt
