Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Walnut—a sweet, friendly boy with a mellow charm and a joyful, playful streak that comes out the moment he hits the outdoors. He loves running in the play yards and is a regular in playgroups, where his easygoing nature helps him make quick friends. Sniff walks are one of his favorite adventures, and he’ll happily take his time investigating every scent along the way. Walnut is also a proud Pass the Leash participant, and he’s a Hidden Gems Club member, too. He already knows “sit” and “come,” and he’s currently working on “down” and “stay.” Beneath all that fun and curiosity is an incredibly affectionate soul who bonds deeply and thrives on gentle connection. If you’re looking for a loving companion who blends mellow sweetness, playful enthusiasm, and a real desire to learn, Walnut might be the perfect match.

Falling in love with a pet is easy and pet ownership is very rewarding. Adopting a pet, however, is a big decision. Dogs, cats, and other furry friends require a lot of time, money, and commitment. Our experienced adoption coordinators will gladly help you find an animal that's likely to be a good fit for your lifestyle and living arrangements.
At our shelter, all dogs must be escorted out on a leash and collar. For smaller dogs, a carrier or crate may be used instead. All cats require a secure carrier for their journey home. Should you find yourself without the necessary supplies at the time of adoption, we offer a selection of basic items available for purchase right here at the shelter.
Our adoption process is designed to be thorough yet efficient. It includes an essential meeting with the animal you are interested in adopting. If the animal is prepared to join a new home, you may be able to complete the adoption on the same day. Please note, the process can take up to an hour or longer, particularly if there are specific medical preparations needed for your new pet. We aim to facilitate immediate placements into loving homes, and as such, we no longer offer holds on animals ready to leave the same day.
Included in the Adoption Fee:
The adoption fee covers the cost of spaying or neutering your pet, micro-chipping, annual vaccinations, and a rabies vaccination. For residents of Sarasota County, there is an additional $13 fee for a rabies tag and registration.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure a smooth and successful adoption for each animal and their new family. Thank you for supporting our mission and choosing to adopt.
Adoption Fees
For Dogs:
Puppies (6 months & under): $300
Small Adult Dogs (less than 30lbs): $300
Medium & Large Adult Dogs (30lbs or more): $85
Small Senior Dogs (7 years & older): $200
