My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gimli! He is an approximately 8-year-old schnauzer mix. Gimli is a lark! He is friendly and joyful. Gimli is looking for his forever home. Gimli is ready for the world! He loves to be picked up and cradled like a baby. As soon as you sit down, in fact, be ready for this cutie jumping up along side you and leaning into your body. He would stay that way for hours if given a chance! He is just 18 pounds. Gimli loves to play fetch and will proudly bring you his toy. He will share toys with other dogs without a fuss. He enjoys sitting in your lap and is happy to have his sister, Ali, climb up as well. If you are petting another dog he comes right over to join in the affection but is never rude to the other furry friend. He knows there are plenty of pets to go around. He is great with young children and does well with people he has only just met. Gimli came to us with his sister, Ali, both abandoned when their humans divorced and neither person committed to their care. We are committed to Gimli, though, and finding him the best home. Originally, we were convinced he should be adopted with Ali. However, as we have learned more about the two in their shared foster home, we see that Ali and Gimli thrive on the attention they get from people around them. They do not seek each other out but make it their duty to seek out their new favorite humans time and again! We are confident that they will both due well in their own separate homes with their own people (and family pets) to bond with.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you visit FLA at an adoption event, you will see many dogs and cats in need of adoption. We work with all breeds and all ages. Our goal is to match person to pet in a way that compliments temperaments and lifestyles. Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect from our adoption process:
a. Talk with an FLA representative about a dog or cat.
b. Fill out a simple, one-page application form.
c. Agree to a home check.
d. Fill out adoption paperwork, print an ID tag and
take your new family member home!

Once you have adopted from FLA, we remain a support system for you. We are here to answer any questions you may have as you bring your new dog or cat into your home.

Go meet their pets

Let us know if you are interested in one of our cats or dogs and we will set up a private meet and greet.

More about this rescue

We began as a mobile adoption unit for a local humane society and then realized we could help even more dogs and cats in need if we became a 501 (c)(3). FLA Rescue was formed. Over the years, we have met incredible individuals and families who have opened their hearts and homes to hundreds of dogs and cats in need of love and a fresh start. We love it when we get updates - from pictures to visits in-person - from past adopters and adoptees. We believe that people who adopt dogs and cats in need are truly special individuals. We feel lucky to volunteer our time for animals and help people like you find a dog or cat who will bring joy to your life.
