Their adoption process

All of our pets are altered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Dogs over the age of six months are heartworm tested. Pets that are too young to be altered will be sent with a voucher to assist with the cost of having them altered (must be altered within 7 months of adoption).

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Visit our website or Facebook to see our available pets, or stop by during our business hours to meet them!
  2. Submit Application
    1. Applications may be submitted online at https://www.lenoircountyspca.org/adopt or in person during our business hours!
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. We ask that you (and your current pets) meet the pet in person before adopting to ensure that it will be a good fit!
  4. Approve Application
    1. Once you've met the pet and all of your information is verified, we can approve you for adoption!
  5. Pay Fee
    1. Our adoption fee is $130 for dogs/puppies or $75 for cats/kittens. Cash, check, and card (fee applies) are accepted!

More about this shelter

The Lenoir County SPCA is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization located in Kinston, NC. We are run by a non-profit organization rather than the county's animal control department. Our shelter annually accepts approximately 2,500 stray, neglected, abused or surrendered animals from Lenoir County and we do not limit this intake based on health, temperament or age.

We receive only partial funding for shelter operations from Kinston/Lenoir County, leaving us with a significant deficit every month. The remaining expenses are paid by private donors and any profit earned from our Second Chances Thrift Store.

To help save additional animals, our rescue coordinator works with reputable rescue organizations throughout the US to transport our animals to rescues or shelters for adoption!

Our small shelter receives an average of 8 new homeless pets every day. Please spay & neuter your pets!
