Meet Esso!
Massachusetts-based
Once a stray potcake roaming the streets of the Bahamas, Esso had learned to survive on his own—quietly, cautiously, and always on alert. When he was finally rescued, safety came with its own challenges. He spent long days in a crowded shelter, confined to a crate for 23 hours at a time, watching the world from behind metal bars and never quite knowing what would come next.
When Esso finally boarded a plane to the United States, his whole life changed—but at first, it didn’t feel like a rescue. Confused and overwhelmed, he went to the bathroom in his crate, unsure of what was expected of him. Human touch frightened him, and Esso kept his distance, bracing for the worst even when gentle hands reached his way.
But over the next three months, something beautiful happened. Slowly—very slowly—Esso began to understand that this new world was safe. His foster family gave him space, patience, and quiet moments of kindness. And little by little, he came out of his shell.
Now Eszo greets his foster family with a soft, hopeful wag of his tail when they come home. He allows pets without shrinking back, and he’s even discovered the joy of curling up on the couch, leaning his warm body against someone who loves him.
Esso is still learning, still growing—but every day he becomes more of the dog he was always meant to be: gentle, loyal, and quietly brave. His journey isn’t finished yet, but for the first time in his life, it’s leading somewhere full of love.
