My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Susie arrived at Animal Aid folded in on herself, like a young plant that hasn’t realized the sun's for her, too.
She was gentle and quiet, still building the courage to grow.
Then came the tending.
A kind volunteer began sitting with her each afternoon, reading stories in a soft voice, offering steadiness instead of pressure. It was the emotional equivalent of good sunlight and the right kind of watering. Slowly, Susie lifted her head. Then her ears. Then her whole spirit.
A dog who once shrank into corners now trots over to say hello, curious about every new sound and smell. She leans in for affection. She rolls in the grass. She has discovered that joy is not a scarce resource, and she seems a little surprised she had it in her this whole time.
Susie is three years old, healthy, and very much in her growing season. She’s still a touch tender in new situations, the way any recently restored plant might be, but the shy girl who arrived here is steadily giving way to her true nature: silly, affectionate, and quietly confident. She’s even begun showing off her playful side, like she’s rediscovering parts of herself she’d set aside for safekeeping.
But here’s the truth every gardener knows - even the best greenhouse can only take you so far. For Susie to become everything she’s meant to be, she needs the final step in her journey. She needs to be transplanted into her permanent home, where her roots can settle and her joy can unfurl for good.
If you’re ready to help a gentle soul finish blooming, come meet Susie. She’s ready for her next chapter, and she’s more than ready to love whoever walks through the door. No gardening experience required.

Additional adoption info

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.

Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
