Meet Shepherd: The Goodest Boy on Pause (for Now)
Shepherd is the kind of dog who can melt hearts with just one look. He’s gentle, affectionate, and has perfected the art of leaning into a hug. Right now, he’s taking it easy while he undergoes heartworm treatment. It’s not exactly his favorite activity (he’d much rather be outside showing off his zoomie skills), but he understands his body needs rest to heal.
While he’s on exercise restrictions, Shepherd has embraced a slower pace and is soaking up every bit of love and attention from staff and volunteers. He’s discovered the joy of extra snuggles, cozy naps, and all the good-boy affirmations a dog could want.
He’s not entirely convinced why “heartworm treatment” doesn’t include more actual treats, but he’s staying mostly quiet about it… for now.
If you’d like to meet this sweet, handsome boy, stop by the Fredericksburg SPCA and ask for Shepherd! Just be ready to explain (several times) the difference between “treatment” and “treats.”

Our adoption process is easy! No home visits, no reference checks. We have many dogs and cats available for adoption.
Our adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip & registration, basic vaccines, rabies vaccine (4 months and older), age-appropriate blood testing (6 months and older), flea/tick/heartworm treatments, and deworming.
As a non-profit organization, our adoption fees help us to offset some of these costs.
Note - you must be 18 years or older to adopt.
