My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Murphy. I’m seven years old, fifty-six pounds, and I’m not the kind of dog who makes a loud entrance. I don’t jump or bark for attention. I simply walk up gently, sit beside you, and hope you notice the love in my eyes.

I’ve always been the calm one. The thinker. The steady presence. Especially for Thor.

We lost our home when our family was evicted. It was scary and confusing, but Thor stayed close to me, like he always does. Here at the shelter, we do everything together — we explore side by side, we rest next to each other, and we check in often, just to make sure we’re both okay.

People keep saying they hope someone adopts us together. I hope that too. I don’t need much — just a quiet home, a soft bed, and my best friend lying beside me.

If you choose us, you won’t just be saving two dogs. You’ll be keeping a promise we made to each other long ago. And I’ll spend the rest of my life thanking you for it — in quiet, loyal, unwavering love.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Harford County, Inc., located in Fallston, Maryland, is a non-profit, open-admission animal support organization dedicated to providing shelter and care to the homeless, abandoned and abused animals of Harford County. We provide a safe and healthy temporary shelter and seek loving, permanent homes to ensure the long-term welfare of the animals we serve. Through education and advocacy, we promote the humane treatment of companion animals and work toward reducing, and ultimately eliminating, pet overpopulation in the county through low-cost spay and neuter programs.

We have welcomed more than 300,000 animals since 1946 and provide service to the community in conjunction with animal control to safeguard public health and safety. We strive to promote the special bond between humans and their companion pets in securing forever homes for our animals.

The Humane Society of Harford County serves nearly 4,000 animals each year. The animals include dogs, cats, ponies, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, bearded dragons, lizards, snakes, spiders, iguanas, turtles, ducks, turkeys, chickens, goats and pigs, to name a few. The majority of the animals we receive are cats (and kittens) and dogs (and puppies).
