Kevin I was as shocked as the HSHC staff to find out I had diabetes! My owner surrendered me to the shelter on July 30 because he couldn`t afford to care for me. He sure did provide me with plenty of grub, as I weigh 16.5 pounds! I am an 11-year-old male, black DSH, already neutered and declawed on my front paws. BTW, being hefty makes being declawed even more painful. Since being at the HSHC, I`ve had many tests and treatments, including insulin shots. On August 29, I moved into a fantastic foster home. My foster mom (FM) told the interviewer lady (IL) that I am the sweetest! She described me as an affectionate purr-box who enjoys napping next to you but is also content napping alone in his favorite spot on her daughter`s bed. Quick movements tend to startle me. My foster housemate, Callie, scares me, but I`ve been a consummate gentleman towards her and her nonstop sass! I have gotten along with people of all ages. I am very fond of FM`s 5-year-old, who tries to carry me and give me squeeze hugs. Due to my size, this is never easy on the youngster! Being a diabetic cat, I drink gallons of water, and I need an extra-large litter box, as I can produce puddles! The only accidents I`ve had have been because of a soft stool for which I was on medication. I am proud of my excellent litterbox skills. FM said that I am such a loving cat that I purr through my blood sugar level tests and never make a fuss when I get my insulin shot. FM told the IL that I am an affectionate boy who needs a little extra care, but I am worth every effort. She also said that though I may not be the sharpest tack in the box, I am gifted in knowing how to love my people. Diabetes requires a diet designed to help my blood sugar levels. The HSHC staff can provide you with the necessary information regarding my health requirements and how to assist me in a successful transition to your home. My FM has loved taking care of me, and she is confident someone will fall in love and offer me a forever home. 9-22-25

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
