I wont lie-my life didnt start out easy. I was left behind, sick, skinny, and hurting in more ways than one. I didnt know if people could be kind. I didnt know if anyone would see me for more than what Id been through.

But even after everything... I still believe in love and that people are truly awesome! Hi Im Homer - the handsomest, sweetest most down to earth fella at the shelter right now. Ive learned how to play with tennis balls and even learned how to do a sit on command AND put my front paw for a paw/handshake! Ohhhhh, I love to learn new things and be with the human race. YES - despite the pain and neglect I faced, I still want to be with people. I was adopted out to a wonderful family for a short time. Turns out I love car rides, kids who will love me back, long naps next to my person, lying in the sunshine, a blanket that I can use as my pacifier, and all the affection you can muster. Im even housebroken and crate trained.

I hope someone out there is looking for a dog like me-quiet, loyal, and endlessly forgiving....and FUN. When I look into your eyes, I dont just see a person-I see possibility. A future. A friend.

Ive healed - Im stronger, learned trust, and grew back the fur I lost to fleas and fear. My ears are now great, my body filled out (maybe a bit too much), and my heart? Full of love for you.

If youre looking for a dog who will appreciate every kind word, every gentle touch, every promise kept... Im right here.

With all my heart,
Homer

Featuring photos by Krystle-Lee Photography

Please note that we operate by first come, first serve along with adoption approval. Wait times may vary depending on the time of week and day.
We are reserving Mondays and Tuesdays for appointments for members of the public who are immunocompromised or are still uncomfortable being in large crowds due to COVID-19.
If you have any questions about our adoptable pets, please call (913) 831-7722 or email adoptions@greatplainsspca.org. Our expert matchmakers look forward to finding you the perfect furry family member!
Adoption Requirements:
- Adopter must be 18 years of age or older.
- Adopters must complete a survey and present photo identification to meet any of our animals.
- For the safety and health of our animals, we do not ship pets.
- Pet adoption fees range from $60 to $350. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals needing our help. We do our best to keep our adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for animals available for adoption until we can place them in a loving home. The adoption fee for each animal varies and is dependent on many factors including: age, size, behavior, medical condition, and public demand.
