My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Nala was brought in by a community member on August 22, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Nala is a slightly fluffy, gentle soul who is searching for her next throne: a cozy sofa or bed where she can lounge beside her favorite human. She's an affectionate, sweet cat who loves being close to her person and will happily magnet herself to you during TV time or bedtime. Nala has a great appetite and is very food-motivated. She adores wet food and always finishes it quickly. With dry food, she has preferences-if she likes the flavor, it's gone in no time; if not, she may leave a few leftovers. She's excellent at communicating when she's hungry, often vocalizing and leading you straight to her "dining room" to make sure you don't forget. During the day, Nala is an expert napper and is perfectly content entertaining herself, making her a wonderful companion for someone who works full-time. When you come home, she'll be there to greet you with a reminder that it's dinnertime. Nala is friendly, easygoing, and very affectionate when handled respectfully. She loves gentle pets on her head and back and often rolls over in happiness-though she prefers her belly admired, not touched. If her boundaries are crossed, she may gently tap your hand to let you know. One thing she feels strongly about: she really does not like being picked up. Being lifted is scary and stressful for her, and too much of it can make her upset, so she's best suited for someone who enjoys bonding at ground level or on the couch. She does best in a calm environment. Loud visitors, fast movements, or barking dogs outside can frighten her, causing her to hide. However, with gentle, quiet people who approach slowly, she's willing to give them a chance and warm up at her own pace. Overall, Nala is a deeply sweet and healing presence-an affectionate companion who enjoys following you around, lounging beside you, and soaking up gentle affection. She will need a quiet space to acclimate in a new home and a dental check-up in the future, so her adopter should be prepared to follow up with a veterinarian. If you're a calm, kind soul looking for a loving cat to snuggle with on the sofa or in bed, Nala may be your perfect match.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
