My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lizzie is a special sweet shy girl looking for a home where she will feel safe and secure!

This 3 year old boxer mix spent the past several months running loose near a dangerously busy road, wandering between businesses but too scared to approach anyone. Our friends at Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery were able to trap her and she immediately melted and clung to her rescuer for security once she knew she was safe. She's very timid and army crawls up to new people tentatively especially men, but once she bonds she turns into a happy silly goofy playful boxer. She lived with another dog and has enjoyed playing with some doggie friends at the shelter with proper introductions. She is easily spooked and may try to bolt when startled or in new situations, definitely a flight risk so making sure she's securely leashed at all times is especially important. Lizzie is 63lbs full grown, spayed, updated on shots, and ready to start a new life.

Please submit an application to meet Lizzie by appointment. Prepare to bring some yummy treats and a doggie friend to meet her so you get to see her sweet silly side.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
