My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh yeah, I’m one handsome royal. I’m such a sweetheart and a very active, typical, goofy young dog. During the day I like to be active and would benefit from walks and playing fetch. I’m still a bit still nervous about getting in cars but once in, I ride nicely.

I’m incredibly smart and eager to learn – especially when the reward is tasty treats and your praise. I love watching everything that’s going on and also enjoy lounging in the sun or sniffing around. I’m generally an easy-going companion. I would do best with kids who are old enough to understand how to interact respectfully with a dog.

Go meet their pets

Adoptions are completed on a first come, first served basis. Please note there may be a wait to meet with a pet, dependent on advisor availability.

Please allow plenty of time to meet your perfect pet. Once you have selected a pet, the adoption process will take at least 30 minutes. We do not begin the adoption process after 5:30 pm.

Animal Humane New Mexico performs a background check on all adopters & does not adopt to anyone who has committed a violent crime. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption for any reason.

Please note, visitors must wear their mask indoors at all Animal Humane locations.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
