Our beautiful girl Shawna was rescued from the Corona Animal Shelter after she and a small Chihuahua were found tied up and abandoned in front of the shelter one morning when staff arrived. Her Chihuahua friend was adopted quickly which left Shawna even more confused and alone. Shelter volunteers who are also PAWS members quickly saw how sweet and calm Shawna is and pulled her to safety. She went immediately into a foster home where she has proved those first impressions to be true. Shawna is a lab mix, approximately 5 years old and 65lbs.
Once in foster care it was noticed that she had some trouble getting up from a laying down position and a limp when she walked. After a vet visit, it was discovered that she was born with two deformed hips and a front elbow that prevents her from being able to bend it. She is on prescribed medication and a monthly Librela injection to help her thrive in our care. Other than a little stiffness getting up after lying down she is doing great. In fact her front leg deformation causes her to lay sprawled out like a little black seal sunbathing on the beach! Shawna is in no way disabled. She can climb stairs and go on short walks. She is special because of her birth defect and that just makes her even more loving!
Shawna adapted quickly to her foster home. She immediately got along with her three doggie foster sisters. She showed them that she loves belly rubs & loves to be around her humans and other dogs. She is an easy keeper and does not ask for much in return. A couch or bed to crash on, food in her belly and some occasional treats that she will sit pretty for. Shawna will sit politely like a good girl with her foster sisters awaiting her treats but she really thinks that they are all hers!
She sleeps through the night; in a crate or perfectly in a doggie bed, as long as she is near her humans. She is potty trained and up to date on all vaccines plus a fecal test.
If you are looking for a sweet loving, low maintenance girl, then look no further. Shawna deserves a second chance at life in a loving home.
Shawna's adoption fee is $195

More about this rescue
Our Mission
The purpose of PETS ARE WORTH SAVING (PAWS) is to place stray, abandoned, and unwanted shelter animals into desirable, loving homes. All animals that are rescued from local shelters are placed in foster homes where they will receive love, attention, and medical care before being placed with their new families. We work hard to prevent the mistreatment of animals, impede animal over population and encourage responsible pet ownership through education and outreach with the public. PAWS makes every effort to establish and maintain close working relationships with local animal shelters to hopefully one day end euthanasia of adoptable shelter pets.
Who We Are
PETS ARE WORTH SAVING “PAWS” is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization comprised of compassionate volunteers who have made it their mission to help all adoptable animals living in City shelters find safe, permanent homes that will provide them with the dignity and love they so richly deserve.
Our wonderful group of volunteers met each other helping animals at the Corona Shelter and worked together for approximately 3 years before making the decision to form our own non-profit group, known as PETS ARE WORTH SAVING (PAWS). Our mutual love of animals and our desire to give these beautiful creatures the opportunity for eternal happiness is what drives us to free them from shelters for placement in forever homes.
What The Future Holds…..
PAWS would someday like to expand our operation by opening a permanent location that will serve as a safe haven for animals and provide education for people that wish to learn more about pet care and issues that affect all cats and dogs. To reach this goal, we will need to rely on the generosity of donors, apply for grant funds, and hold various fundraising events to raise the money necessary to realize our dream.
