My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Boerne, TX
DOB: 06/06/2018

Chloe Sunshine is a Great Dane mix whose journey into rescue began under incredibly hard circumstances. She came to us about six months ago after surviving on her own in a remote area of Texas, where she had to be humanely trapped so she could finally get the help she needed. At some point earlier in her life, Chloe survived distemper, which left her with a facial and mouth tic that doesn’t bother her at all. Her front teeth were severely worn, likely from trying to chew her way out of confinement, and she arrived malnourished, exhausted, and pregnant. Tragically, the puppies had passed before rescue, and Chloe required emergency surgery to save her life. Along with her spay, several damaged teeth were removed, and she began her long road to recovery with proper medical care, food, and rest.

When Chloe first arrived in foster care, she was completely shut down and terrified of people. Her foster family gave her her own quiet room with soft beds, plenty of food and water, and even a TV to help her feel less alone. For the first few days, she stayed curled in the corner, freezing whenever someone entered, unsure of what might happen next. Her foster family allowed her all the time she needed, moving at her pace and asking nothing of her except to feel safe.

Slowly, Chloe began to take brave steps forward. First she ventured outside on her own. Then she met the other dogs in the home, which turned out to be a huge breakthrough for her. Watching them helped her understand that she was safe, and before long she started leaving her room, joining the household, and learning how to be a dog again.

Today, Chloe Sunshine is almost unrecognizable from the scared girl who first arrived. She plays with the other dogs, relaxes on the couch, seeks out snuggles, and happily enjoys her meals. She’s learning to walk on a leash and greets her foster mom with the sweetest little happy dance that perfectly fits her name. Over the holidays, she even stayed in a different home while her foster family was away. Though nervous at first, she quickly settled in, climbed onto the couch for pets, and by the end of the stay was happily dancing for her sitter too.

Chloe has shown that she can adjust to new environments and continue to build trust, and she’s ready for a forever home of her own. She will do best with patient, gentle people who understand that her confidence was hard-won and deserves to be protected. Chloe Sunshine has endured more than most dogs ever should, and now she’s ready for a future filled with comfort, kindness, and the steady love she’s waited so long to find.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
