My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Straight from the pasture to your heart, meet the Dairy Dozen: 12 adorable pit mix puppies who look like they wandered out of a Holstein herd and into a cuddle puddle. These little sweethearts are bundles of energy named in honor of Polk County’s beloved dairy farmers—each one a tribute to the hardworking folks who keep kept our milk flowing for generations. They’re already showing smarts and spunk. These pups will thrive in active homes. Whether you’ve got a pasture, a backyard, or just a big heart, the Dairy Dozen are ready to bring joy, laughter, and a little local pride to your life. Set up a time to meet the herd—your future best friend might just be grazing in the puppy pen!

If you're interested in adopting one, please fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve an appointment time. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure the puppy will be available to meet you when you come.

Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! #adoptdontshop

Go meet their pets

Our Shelter is open every day from 10am-4pm, except Sundays. On Sundays, we are open from noon-4pm.

We are open for walk-ins, but we recommend appointments because some of our pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment with another potential adopter. We just don't want you to come to our location and be disappointed if you can't meet a pet you are interested in.

You can select an appointment time using this link: https://koalendar.com/e/meet-and-greet-appointment.
