My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Jack

Hi! My name is Jack, I am an 14-15 week old, 9lb and growing small/medium breed hound mix- maybe beagle, treeing walker maybe basset? My 2 brothers and I were found in a ditch in Tennessee and sent to rescue. We came pretty sick and have gained our strength and are ready to take on the world!

My foster mom says I am little but mighty as the runt! I show my brothers how to bounce and chase, I even enjoy tackling them! I am strong and love to get the party started! I am confident puppy and welcome meeting new friends dog and human alike and have gotten really good at wiggling my butt to show my excitement! I love to attend my foster kids sporting events and soak up all the attention and pets from strangers. My foster mom even wraps me in a blanket for snuggles.

I have the best puppy eyes to match my sweet disposition and use them to get extra tasty treats which I like to throw in the air and catch them! I LOVE to get snuggles and held by my foster mom or any willing arms/laps. Her lap is one of my favorite places when she isn’t kissing my face while I kiss her. I also love to curl up with my foster dog sister and use her back as a headrest.

I am already quite smart and social! I love my 6 foster dog friends especially the pittie mix and the Aussie who take turns being my mama! I’ve met my grandma’s chi and he was so fun too so were her cats! I was very respectful and listened to their corrections when I was playing and they didn’t want to.

I love children even being held by them gently in their laps and have met those 2-17. I will even indulge kids in a game of fetch or chase. I loved meeting all the new people and dogs at our adoption events and love walking right up and introducing myself!

I am a smart boy and doing well potty outside on routine. I am fully crate trained and stay quiet at night until my tummy growls at 6 and I let out a few howls to let my foster mom know it’s morning! I have learned to “sit”, “touch”, “down” and working on recall and I do know my name and respond to it! I am also working on leash manners and doing well! Treats are my favorite especially turkey tendons and peanut butter kongs so I’ve been a very fast learner and eager to please.

If you are looking for the perfect mix of sweet and spice I am your perfect little dude! I promise to cuddle you and play tug of war or chase anytime! My perfect family would have other dogs or kids for me to play with.
Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping.

In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process.

If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application.

Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.
