Meet Roxie — a gentle soul looking for her happy ending.
Roxie hasn’t had the easiest start. She was sadly abandoned in Springfield by the family she once trusted, left unsure of what her future would hold. Thankfully, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan stepped in to help her and had her tested for heartworms before she came into our care. The news wasn’t what anyone hoped for — Roxie tested positive.
We immediately began treatment, but sweet Roxie’s luck took another tough turn. She developed an extremely rare reaction to the medication, which triggered the early stages of kidney disease. Even through all of this, Roxie has remained one of the most loving, people-focused dogs we’ve ever met.
What Roxie wants more than anything is a home where she can finally feel safe, loved, and included. She adores children and would be thrilled to have some kiddos to dote on. She does ask for a home without other dogs — not because she’s difficult, but because she’s easily stressed and deserves a peaceful environment where she can truly relax.
Roxie will need to stay on kidney-supportive food for the rest of her life, and her heartworm treatment will continue at a slower, gentler pace to protect her kidneys as much as possible. She doesn’t mind — as long as she has a family by her side.
If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who has weathered life’s storms and still has so much love to give, Roxie is ready to meet you. She’s been through more than any dog should, but with the right family, her brightest days are still ahead.
Roxie is ready for her second chance. Could it be with you?
