Seraphim, or Sera for short (she responds to both), is an angel disguised as a Pitbull. Sera, clearly having some sort of trauma from her original owner, only desires to love and to be loved. She loves relaxing, going on walks, and devouring treats. But more than anything Sera loves to snuggle! If letting your fur baby sleep in your bed with you is your thing, Sera will be more than happy to get under the blanket with you and snuggle right up against the curvature of your legs; and feeling her warm, loving presence is comforting on a level that cannot be described. Sera loves to go on walks, and loves to run, but only for short periods. If you’re looking for a dog with a modest amount of energy, but doesn’t require too much, then she is your dog.
Sera came to me with an already excellent foundation of training, knowing “sit” and “come”. I have been working with her a little bit since I have had her, but in truth, of all my years working with dogs personally as well as professionally, I do not know if I have met a more intuitive, sensitive dog than Sera. Even when first bringing her home, when returning from our walk, she would trot down the hallway with her leash and collar still on. I would simply say, “where do you think you’re going, missy?” And she would immediately turn around and come back to me, tail wagging, waiting for me to take her leash and collar off. It is that type of intuition and connection you can expect with this sweet angel. Since fostering with her, I have been having her sit and “wait”, when I put her food down. I tell her, “Watch” whilst pointing at my nose, keeping her eyes on me, before saying, “OK”, and giving her permission to chow down (which she absolutely loves to do — the girl can eat, and she will happily share your breakfast, lunch, and dinner with you, if you were so inclined — she loves fruit!!). I also make sure she sits and waits for me before we exit my home, which she politely does. And then once I exit the house, I turn, look at her, test her for a moment, and then say, “OK, girl!” And she comes galloping out of the house full of excitement and gratitude, which I then reward her with some butt scratches. Oh, she loves butt scratches, more than any other dog I have personally met, and she will sit there for hours, if you had the time and energy, while you scratched her tush. With all of that said, Sera will need some minor training, as she has yet to learn “stay”, or “lie down”, or “heel”.
She is a pleasure to walk, and more often than not will walk calmly and gently by your side. She is, however, very prey-oriented, and will begin to pull when seeing another animal, whether that be another dog, or a squirrel.
Sera is house broken and is okay to be left alone in the house, without being put in a crate. She is okay being left alone for long periods of time, so not to worry if you have to leave her alone in the house when you go to work, as I have left her for up to 8 hours previously. She knows key words and phrases such as, “Walk”, “Want to go out?”, “Are you hungry?”, and “treat”, and will get very excited when you say these things around her, so be careful! :)
Sera will do best in a calm, peaceful home, since, due to any trauma that she has experienced, can get a little overwhelmed with too much frenzy. She would do best in a home with 1 or 2 adults, and no children, at least until she gets acclimated. If you are okay with her being on your couch or recliner, she will happily jump up and lay on your lap while you read or watch television.
Whoever adopts Sera is very, very lucky, nay - blessed, for she is truly, truly, an angel from heaven that will bring so much joy, love, peace, safety and comfort into your home and into your life. Sera will do well as an emotional support dog, due to her calm, loving, intuitive nature. I often think of the person adopting her as having one of those bumper stickers that asks, “Who saved who?
