My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A Companion for a Quiet Life
Meet Jax! This 6-year-old Chihuahua mix is a charming little guy looking for a quiet home where he can be the center of someone's world. Jax is a classic Chihuahua—he's incredibly loyal and forms a powerful bond with his person. It takes a little time for him to warm up, but once you've won him over, you'll have a funny, loving, and dedicated companion for life.
What Makes Jax Special
Jax is a lover of all things cozy and close. He wants to be right by your side, whether you're relaxing on the couch or exploring the yard. He loves to give kisses, cuddle, and play with his favorite chew toys. He's also a great sport when it comes to playtime—he'll happily chase and fetch balls for as long as you can throw them.
Jax is house trained and crate trained, though he prefers to have his crate door open so he can come and go as he pleases. He's also a smart cookie and knows how to use potty pads if you have to be away for a while. Jax is a barker so he would not be a good fit for shared walls.
Who is Jax's Ideal Companion?
Jax is looking for a special person who understands his needs and can provide him with a stable, predictable home. He thrives in a calm environment and would do best with a woman who leads a relatively quiet life without a constant stream of new visitors.
While he is wary of new people, especially men, he can eventually get used to them with time and patience. He needs a person who is willing to help him work through his initial anxiety by giving him the space and boundaries he needs to feel safe and accept a new person in his space. The rescue has been working with him on this, and he's making great progress!
Important Considerations
Because of his small size and a tendency to wander, Jax must always be on a leash or in a securely fenced yard. His ideal home would be an adult-only home. He doesn’t mind other friendly dogs or cats. He does do a little chasing but it’s out of fun, not aggression. He even seems to find some comfort in other dogs being in the home.
If you're looking for an extremely loyal best friend who will love you unconditionally, Jax might be the perfect match for you!

Jax's adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care.
We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website. www.northernlakesrescue.org

Go meet their pets

Northern Lakes Rescue is foster based so all dogs are being fostered by amazing volunteers across the state of MN. Because of this, we require all meet and greets to be scheduled after an application is submitted.

Our focus after you apply is to get you scheduled to meet the dog within 3 to 7 days.

More about this rescue

Our Vision is to be a voice for those who are voiceless. We hear them with our hearts and give them a voice. Looking into the eyes of a rescued animal will speak volumes; watching those eyes light up will have an everlasting impact on you and the rescued animals.

We aren’t a typical rescue as we don’t take in dogs and put them in kennels until they’re adopted. All dogs we rescue are placed in loving foster homes that teach them to be the best dog they can be.

Our journey doesn’t end with adoption, either. We are here for you to support you in integrating your new member into your home, cheer new triumphs, and help with struggles.
