My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Bear, his three brothers and his sister were left alone when their owner died. They were rescued by a relative and taken to a shelter. Shamrock took all five dogs. Bear's sister, Princess, and brother Brownie were adopted immediately. His brothers Teddy and Dutch have a potential home, but Bear is still looking for his family or person. The shelter listed the dogs as Pekingese, but we think they are some kind of mix. They're the perfect candidates for DNA testing, as we really can't tell by looking at them.

Bear would do best with someone who is home most of the time or can take him along on outings, weather permitting. He would love a doggy companion, as he's spent all of his life with a homebody and his siblings. Bear is a sweet boy who loves to play with interactive toys (the kind that dispense treats), as well as small stuffed toys he can squeak and toss in the air while lying on his back. Some of his favorites, as well as his favorite bed, will come with him to his new home.

Bear is learning to walk nicely on leash. He can get excited by other animals, especially when they appear suddenly. He's a favorite among the folks at the facility where he goes for doggy daycare and loves, loves, loves his snacks and treats. He is a smart boy who learns very quickly with positive reinforcement (treats).

When rescued, Bear had long hair, but it was terribly matted, so it was cut short. It's growing back, and we imagine it will be long and lovely once it does. You'll see a mark on his head in one of his photos. We think that was from play; it looks like he was knocked by another dog's teeth. It's not a bite, and it has completely healed.

Bear deserves the best of homes, with someone or a family who will love him and give him a wonderful life.
