Anna and Elsa fluttered into J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on July 16, 2025, after their previous owner could no longer give them the time they needed. At about 4–5 years old, these lovely ladies are bonded and must go home together.
Parakeets (also called budgies) are cheerful, social little birds that bring color and song into any home. Anna and Elsa will thrive in a safe space with room to fly, toys to play with, and plenty of interaction from their humans. 🕊️✨
🔍 Parakeet Care Quick Tips:
📏 Size: ~6–8 inches long
📅 Lifespan: 6–10 years
🏠 Cage: At least 18” wide (bigger is better!) with ½” or smaller bar spacing
🪵 Enrichment: Multiple perches, toys, swings, and shreddable items for stimulation
🥗 Diet:
– 80% high-quality pellets + parakeet seed mix
– Fresh veggies and fruit (carrot, apple, pear, green beans, leafy greens)
– Cuttlebone or mineral block for calcium and beak health
💧 Bathing: Mist with lukewarm water or offer a shallow bird bath 2x per week
🧽 Cleaning: Spot clean the cage 2–3x weekly; deep clean monthly
⚠️ Avoid: Avocado, chocolate, onions, alcohol, and overheated Teflon—these are toxic to birds
