Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Disco!
Disco is a 1.5-year-old Pit Bull mix who weighs about 60 pounds. She’s an energetic lady who loves to play with her toys and is always ready to go on a walk to explore outside.
Originally found running at large, Disco came to us in need of some TLC. Because of her past, she can be nervous when meeting new people—especially men—and she needs some time, space, and plenty of treats to feel comfortable. Once she knows you, though, she’s quick to show off her snuggly, affectionate side. Staff loves her playful nature, gorgeous coloring, and adventurous spirit.
Disco seems upset by other dogs and doesn’t enjoy interacting with them, so she would prefer to be the only dog in her forever home. While she’s getting more comfortable passing dogs on walks, at home she definitely wants to be queen of the castle! She has also been around cats in the past and chased them, so she would likely do best in a cat-free home. Because she can be sensitive and nervous, Disco would thrive in a home with older teenagers who can give her the space she needs while building trust with her new family.
Once Disco knows you, she’ll stick right by your side through it all.
If Disco looks like the perfect pup for you, come meet her at the Humane Society of Summit County, 752 West Portage Trail, Akron, OH 44313, or call us at 330-487-0333 ext. 803 to learn more!

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.
We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.
Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter
Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
