My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Papa: A super sweet boy who is so excited for life. Papa is estimated to be between 1 1/2 to 2 years old, 60lbs and a lab mix. He sports a beautiful black coat with white dipped paws and of course those eyes one full blue eye and a parti-eye.

We’re not sure if Papa has ever lived in a house before. Entryways and household appliances made him nervous at first but he has gained a lot of confidence in a short time in his foster home. Papa has had zero accidents, and sleeps quietly in his crate throughout the night.

Papa has been having fun with his canine foster sister, but they have equally rough play styles. We think Papa would be happy as a solo dog but he certainly wouldn’t turn away a playmate.

For now, while Papa is learning how to control his excitement, we would say that older kids, 8 and up and dog savvy kiddos, would be best. Papa LOVES kids very much but he expresses his love with excited mouthy behavior.

When it comes to walking on a leash, Papa does well after the first minute or two out of the gate. The excitement wears off and he’s a polite walker.

A fenced in yard is a must for this boy. The backyard is his happy place- whether it’s chasing balls or just roaming around, Papa loves the outdoors.

Update:

Papa is a really good dog. He loves his people so much and cant get close enough when it's time to snuggle.  He will need training with recall and his new favorite activity- counter surfing. He continues to be accident free in the house and is great in his crate. A yard is a must for this boy.

We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php . We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
