My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.

Adopting a friend:
The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.

What you need to do to adopt:
If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done.

Meet & Greets:
An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.

I

I’m Zelda… and I’m scared.

I don’t know what I did wrong. One day, I had a person, doggie friends… a routine… a home. And now? I’m sitting in a loud, scary place. I hear barking all the time. I sleep on cold concrete. I try to be brave, but I’m losing hope.

I’m an 8-year-old, 69 lb boxer mix, and I promise, I’m a good girl. I’ve already figured out how to live in a home—I’m housebroken, and I have wonderful house manners. I’m not wild or destructive. I just want to quietly be near someone who loves me.

I walk nicely on a leash, and I listen when you talk to me. I love people—all people. And get this? I get along with other dogs and would rather live with dogs my size, and even kids! I just… I just want a chance to be someone’s dog again. My brother, Arlo, was lucky enough to go to a rescue! I would love to find my forever home but right now I just want to get out alive and it's not looking good.

People keep saying I am on the “chopping block first.” I don’t know what that means, but it doesn’t sound good. I don’t want to die in here. I still have love to give. So much love. I just need someone to see me and say, “That’s my dog.”

If you have space in your heart or your home, please come for me.

Love,
Zelda

ADOPTION FEE:

The adoption fee for a cat is $85.

The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets.

The adoption fee for a dog is $200.

The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets.

Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced.

The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer.

We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need.

Additional adoption info

Unless otherwise noted, all Almost Home animals are healthy, spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and on heartworm preventitive (if dog,) and flea & tick preventitive.

If you would like to adopt a pet from Almost Home, start by completing our application, which is available online at www.almosthometn.org. Our adoption process includes reference checks, a home visit, a one week trial period, and a contract. Our goal is to find the best fit for our animals, and for their new families.

ADOPTION FEES:

The adoption fee for a CAT is $85 or two for $145. KITTENS are $100 or two for $185. The adoption fee for kittens includes the cost of spaying/neutering and their rabies shot when they are old enough (usually five months).

The adoption fee for a DOG is $150 or two for $265. PUPPIES are $200 or two for $365. The adoption fee for puppies includes the cost of spaying/neutering and their rabies shot when they are old enough (usually five months).

The adoption of more animals, or a different combination of animals, are welcome and fees will be reduced.

Micro-chipped cats and dogs are an additional $15.

NOTE: Some cats and dogs have a different fee than those listed above. It is noted on their posting. Mature pet adoption fees are lower to encourage people to adopt these wonderful animals who have a lot of love to give. The adoption fee for pure bred or desirable mixed breed dogs and cats is based on the average fee charged by area rescues and/or breed specific rescues.

ADOPTION FEES COVER LESS THAN 75% OF THE COST OF VETTING OUR ANIMALS. WE RELY ON DONATIONS AND GRANTS TO COVER THE REMAINDER.
