Take the Pet Home
This helps Loved At Last Dog Rescue with pet care costs.
Hi there. I'm SUGARPIE (Simba) and here is some info about me:
Breed: Border Collie mix
Age: 3 1/2 yrs
Gender: Female
Weight: Approx 26 kg
Country of origin: Middle East
Highlights: social, active, sweet, playful
I am a social butterfly and as my name suggests, a real sugarpie.
About 3+ years ago, on a cold autumn day, my rescuer found what she dsescribes as a soft, beautiful black “doll” outside her house. I looked at her with my lovely brown eyes, and she instantly fell in love with me — I hope you believe in love at first sight!
When she tried to pet me, I wet myself out of fear. It was quickly realized that some cruel people must have hurt this "sweet black angel with her pretty brown paws." My rescuer comforted me. Slowly I began to trust her. We became friends quickly thereafter.
I am very smart — the first time my rescuer reached out her hand, I gently gave her my paw.
I am very social with other dogs, especially puppies. I love making friends and quickly bond with children. Because I was mistreated when I was young, if someone suddenly throws something towards me, I may bark intensely. But as soon as I realize the person means no harm and loves on me, I do everything to win their heart. Now kitties on the other hand. Not so fond of them.
I also adores plush toys (“dolls”) and am very gentle with them. I love treats. So much so, that I have learned to count. You heard that right. My rescuer tested me with five pieces of food, given daily. One day she gave meonly three pieces first — I took them to my eating spot and came back, waiting for the other two pieces to be given as well. How's that for having the brains in the family.
I get along great with other dogs and love playing. I am also quite good with kids.
My energies depend on the day. When the day is sunny and warm, I am calmer, but on snowy or rainy days, I am full of energy and joy — like a little bomb of happiness. I'm sure I will love Canada's weather. Overall, I am an active, energetic dog. Hoping you like to get out for fun. I'll be right beside you.
Are you ready to make a life of joy between us? Awaiting your arms around me.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.
Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.
Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.
While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be asked to pay a passenger fee on top of the cargo fee.
[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.
[TURKEY] Dogs from Turkey receive a 4D SNAP test to include Leishmania, Heartworm, Ehrlichia, & Anaplasma, as well as Giardia, Parvo, Corona & Distemper.

As adopters of overseas dogs will be taking their dog home from the airport, they have a couple of weeks to decide if the dog is a fit.
