Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Gladys is in round rock
She was an offspring of other box turtles that were housed together and not yet separated by sex. They were separated as soon as the sex was determined. The owners are now elderly and want to find good homes for all the turtles. Gladys is healthy and active.
To adopt a box turtle you must allow them to always live outdoors where they can enjoy natural sunlight, dirt deep enough for burrowing in 912 inches or more), lots of plants and other hiding places, clean fresh water, and a chance for hunting and grazing as if it were in the wild. You must provide at least 100 square feet of space, even if they're only adopting one box turtle (but up to three can live in a space that size after careful observation to ensure they get along with one another). This needs to be an enclosure, not your whole yard as they could be in danger of being stepped on or hit by a lawn mower. They must have hides, some shade, sturdy enclosure walls and a water source/dish.
If you submit photos of your box turtle habitat (with a piece of paper with your name on it or some other form of authentication in the same frame as the habitat) then we will review your application, otherwise your application will expire in 30 days without being reviewed. Pictures should be e-mailed to contact@texastortoiserescue.com (this is the only way to submit your photos - please don't text them or send them over Facebook). Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you will receive an e-mail that has a link to our calendar so that you can schedule the pick up at a time that is convenient for you. The adoption fee for box turtles is $75, payable through the adoption link I will text you once you are approved. You can pay using the link any time before picking up the tortoise. You may pay cash at the time when you pick up the animal only at our Bandera, Pflugerville, and Bertram locations. Foster homes will not take cash.

More about this rescue
Founded in 2015 by Krista McDermid. We take in pet box turtles and tortoises in need of a new home. We get medical attention and rehab them if needed and find them new homes. Our executive director is a retired special education teacher/administrator who loves animals and wants to serve them and the public by helping tortoises find healthy new homes. We are all non-profit and all volunteers. We do it because it is needed and we love it.
