Meet Esme
If you’re looking for an elegant, softhearted companion, Esme is your girl. She’s a stunning grey cat with silvery highlights that shimmer when the light hits just right. But her beauty is only the start of what makes her really special.

Personality, quirks & favorite things:

She’s a headbop pro preferring heads over hands—if you offer your head, she’ll nudge it with her forehead to say hello.

Her favorite pastime is rubbing her scent all over you—arms, legs, face, furniture... She specifically loves her cat tree and uses the scratcher posts rather than your sofa leg!

Big purrmachine: if you’re nearby, she’ll find her rhythm and let you know she’s happy and content.

She used to have a history of biting, but that is behind her now. She no longer bites; she’s learned that humans = wonderful, not dangerous.

Home environment & compatibility:

Gets along well with other cats and small dogs—she’s sociable when introductions are done gently and not rushed.

Because she’s FIV positive, she’ll need a home that understands what that means—but rest assured, she’s healthy and thriving. FIV status doesn’t define her, it just means she may need a little more care and awareness.

She takes a while to adjust to change. New people, new routines, new places—these are big. Once she gets comfortable, she blossoms.

Prefers a calm, quiet household. Probably not the best fit for very young children or a busy, rambunctious environment.

Needs & ideal home:

Indoor only. She’s safest and happiest inside.

A home with patience, where the adopter gives her the time she needs to settle in.

Someone who will enjoy her subtle, affectionate ways—the headbops, the rubbing, the quiet purrs, the moments just being together.

Esme is Feline Leukemia negative but positive for FIV. She is a healthy girl though.

Additional adoption info

1. Review the description of the pet you are interested in to make sure that the information we have fits with your particular needs and desires. In most cases, the information on the website is current and gives the information that we have about the particular pet. The picture of the pet does not tell the whole story.

2. Complete the adoption application at https://pawsforlifenc.org. Please make sure that you give us as much information about yourself as you can. List all animals currently living with you including other dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and rodents. The application needs to be complete in order to help us determine if the pet you have chosen is a good match for your home.

3. Once the application is submitted we will contact you, your references, and your vet.

4. We require a home visit prior to dog adoptions.

5. If more than one person applies, we will go with the BEST fit. If all things are equal, we go in the order the applications were received.

6. Once the home visit has been completed, you will be asked to complete an adoption agreement.

7. The adoption fee is $325 for dogs under 6 months, $300 for 6 months and older. The adoption fee is $125 for kittens under 1 year ($225 for 2 kittens), $85 for cats 1 year and older. This fee helps us to provide the necessary medical care and other needs for the pets while in foster care.

8. All Paws For Life NC pets are spayed or neutered if old enough, current on shots, micro chipped, and to our knowledge, in good health before they are adopted out. Puppies under 6 months of age will require a $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee and a special puppy spay/neuter agreement. Kittens under 6 months will require a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee. We are all volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for our work with the pets. The adoption fee is used to help defray costs in the rescue and care of the pets.

Paws for Life NC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, 100% volunteer, foster-based, animal rescue founded in 2002 to help solve the problem of homeless dogs and cats in Franklin and Northern Wake Counties, NC.

Paws for Life NC focuses on reducing the overpopulation of dogs and cats in the community. 1. We provide foster homes for homeless / rescued dogs and cats and find them forever homes. 2. We offer low cost vouchers for spay neuter of pets in low income homes through our “SNIF” Program. 3. We attend county meetings to advocate for improvement in animal welfare.
