My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sheffield & Truffle

A handsome male brown tabby (Sheffield) and a gorgeous diluted tortie female (Truffle) are a bonded pair of sweet and shy kittens. They are slowly starting to show off their silly personalities.

Sheffield is long and lanky and his confidence & curiosity is growing more everyday. He loves to play and chase a wand toy like a state champion. At first, he is a bit reluctant to pets and lap sessions, however once in your lap he will fall asleep and relax into your arms. He's beginning to love chin stitches and being carried around the house to see all the sights. He is also VERY curious about my two resident cats and gets very excited to see them. He even makes little chirping sounds when they get eyes on each other. They have not yet formally spent time together but hopefully soon!

Truffle is a bit more reserved however she can't resist the sound of playing and as her confidence builds she is very interactive and an excellent huntress. Her markings are absolutely beautiful and may make you think she has some concerns about your intentions. She is cautiously curious and will take a bit longer to warm up. We work on lap time every day and often during our cuddle sessions she purrs so loudly it will melt your heart. She LOVES Churu and will eat it out of your hand and off your fingers.

These two sweet babes are still a bit shy around people. We work on their hunting/playing skills everyday with a Da Bird toy which they both absolutely love. We also work on lap time and interactive treat activities multiple times a day. They would be great for a quiet home (potentially with other cats) and for someone with understanding, a lot of patience and a willingness to play with them often.

FOSTER MOM UPDATE

Sheffield has made so much progress in the petting and purring department. We have snuggle sessions on the couch every day. He is warming up to random pets and is also very curious about what I am doing and the goings on with my resident cats. He is a wonderfully sweet boy and has one of the longest tails I have ever seen. He is also developing one of the most heart melting purrs and chirps all the time.

Truffle is also slowly warming up – we are still working on her getting comfortable with pets and snuggles as she is fiercely independent and hasn’t completely succumb to being held or touched.  She is very curious and will sit next to me on the couch and even has gotten into bed with me.

The best news is there love of my resident cats. They are both completely obsessed with my 2 tabby boys.  It so sweet to see the touch noses and chase each other around the house.  It's wonderful to know that these two sweethearts would do great in a home with other cats!

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
