My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

What can we say about Ollie?

Ollie's a cool little dude. He's about 15 pounds, he's 7 years old, he's fully vetted, he barks a lot but is friendly, and is just desperate for his own person. He came with Ruby, who has been adopted, and while he wasn't bonded with her, I think he was very used to being bullied/bossed around by her. He's starting to figure out who he is without the boss lady!

Ollie is currently testing out being bossy himself; he will growl at other dogs who try to get on the same lap he is on, but I think it's just him testing to see who he is without Ruby. He is overall good with other dogs, big and small, and is not all that interested in cats. He's just a nice dog. I think he would love to be an only dog or with one or two other littles. He does sleep and cuddle with Snowbella, who was one of the 4 dogs he was surrendered with.

Ollie is in Charlottesville, VA, and he is looking for his human(s)! Ollie likes men and women, and he's fine with other dogs and usually sleeps with them, but he definitely prefers sleeping with humans. He's a burrower! Ollie is a barker (can I just stop saying this? I think we all know all dachshunds bark-- a lot). Ollie is not quite sure about new humans at first, but he warms up quickly.

Ollie will need to be watched and kept on a strict potty schedule in a new environment, as he marks when he's stressed, but our house is chaos with so many dogs. I'm sure he will be just fine in no time.

Ollie's adoption fee is $300, and he is current on all of his vetting.

Go meet their pets

We encourage approved adopters to come meet their new forever dachshunds at the home of the foster parent. We also attend selected events such as the Washington Metro DachtoberFest held the first Saturday in October in Frederick MD. Although we do not attend scheduled adoption events we do plan to schedule special K Kids events throughout VA with a focus on Richmond and Charlottesville at least initially.

More about this rescue

We save dachshund lives by matching them from shelters and surrendering owners, regardless of age or health or even selected needed behavior modification, with pre-screened adopters who will give them loving and safe forever homes and take care of them for the rest of their lives. We are adopter friendly and work without judgment. Our goal is to prevent dachshunds from ever entering the shelter or rescue system to begin with by focusing on owner education which covers dachshund health and behavior issues, financial counseling for vet expenses, and estate planning for what happens if your dachshund outlives you. We do this because of our passionate and fierce devotion to the breed.
