Meet Rocket, a sweet and laid-back terrier mix who's ready to find his forever home. Rocket is about 4–5 years old and weighs around 38 pounds. He came to the Merced Animal Shelter with his sister after their owner passed away. While his sister was adopted quickly, Rocket was left behind.
Rocket is fully potty trained and housebroken, and he hasn’t shown any destructive behaviors. He’s not too interested in toys, but he loves taking walks around the block and exploring town. He’s also very food motivated and gently accepts treats. Though his energetic puppy days are behind him, Rocket enjoys following his people around the house and curling up on the couch for a good snuggle. At night, he prefers to be close to his humans, and he's learning to sleep on a dog bed in the bedroom. However, he’s been known to sneak onto the bed in the middle of the night for a cuddle.
At the shelter, Rocket got along well with both male and female dogs and is currently living happily with another male dog in his foster home. He has great public manners and ignores reactive dogs he encounters. Rocket loves spending time with his foster brother, often curling up next to him for a nap. Because of this, he may enjoy joining a home with another dog.
Rocket seems to have had a happy life before his owner’s passing, as he quickly adjusted to home life. He has shown some mild separation anxiety, occasionally howling or barking when left alone. He may do best in a home where someone is around most of the time or with a patient family willing to help him work through his anxiety.
On walks, Rocket is well-behaved and rarely pulls on the leash. He’s confident and friendly with new people, calmly approaching strangers to ask for pets. Rocket is also an excellent car companion, quietly sitting in the backseat and even napping during long rides.
Rocket is patiently waiting to meet his forever family. If you are interested in adopting Rocket, please complete our application at 1luckydogrescue.org or reach out to Patricia at olveiry@yahoo.com with a little information about the home you’d offer Rocket.
