My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Marmalade"
Red Zebra Cichlid
Female
**Three egg spots indicated on tail.

Age: ~ 1 Year
Size: ~2"

NOTE: We do our best to provide accurate information, but we can never guarantee the above. Before considering adopting, please do your research today determine if you're ready for Marmalade and please consider examining your potential new friend beforehand.

Adopters MUST bring their own carriers as we are not funded to provide carriers/bags, yet. We will provide the water Marmalade is currently in. Please slow acclimate to the new tank to reduce stress and avoid shock.
-------

Current Diet:
Omega One Cichlid Flakes [AM]
Thawed Bloodworms [PM]

-------
Intake Type: Local Pet Store Transfer
9/14/25

Partnered with one of our local pet store, stressed or sick aquatics may be transferred into the rescue to help provide a better environment until ready to be adopted out.

Marmalade was transferred in for being stressed as the only Cichlid in the tank with no sort of enrichment. Now, she'll be looking for an appropriate home to help her thrive and let her personality blossom.

While she makes no exception to being feisty when under stress, Marmalade has a cute shy side and loves to play Peek-a-Boo. She'll hide around something and as you look for her, Marmalade will give you a quick "hello" before running off to hide. Marmalade is curious and playful once she opens up.

On 9/14/25, Marmalade was transferred to Medical Bay to begin deworming as a precaution. No medical symptoms have been present since intake. Will be released for adoption 9/18/25.

When adopting a new fish, you must always quarantine new fish for a minimum of two weeks but four to eight are always preferred.

**These guys like to dig and redecorate. Unlike most aquariums, these guys prefer more rocks and caves to explore rather than plants. They're more likely to uproot and destroy plants.

Additional adoption info

We always start off with the application reviewing them at a first come, first serve basis. We look for the best possible compatibility and may ask questions to help to determine if you would be a great possible match. Next, we schedule something known as a "Happy Visit" where you can meet your potential new family member. We usually do this at your property which also covers the brief home visit. However, we also have adoption events or can meet in neutral locations for some animals. Afterwards, you sign an adoption contract and pay for their adoption fee.

ALL adopters must go through a Foster to Adopt before finalizing to ensure it's a good fit.

We check in on a 3-3-3 basis to make sure everything is going well between your new pet while providing resources to help make transitioning smoother.
