My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Approx DOB: April 2023

To truly know May, you must learn May’s story. May was born into a large colony of feral cats. The number stands at about 55. A volunteer was called in to help TNR and get the colony under the control as all the nearby businesses were becoming fed up with the cats. Once that was completed, she took over care, feeding and monitoring of the colony. This past May, a cat showed up on camera in clear distress with an inhumane trap, the kind used for beavers, snapped closed on her neck. Someone in the area had reported a few days prior seeing the cat, however, it could not be located and people searching the area had only driven her farther away and scared her more. A plan was put in place and that afternoon with a little help from a fence she tried to crawl under, May was caught. She was cut free from the fence and from the trap and it was quickly realized that the trap had in fact almost decapitated her. She was rushed to our wonderful vets and somehow, someway, May survived. Her wounds were extremely deep and no one really knew how well off she would be in the end.

Four and a half months later and May is thriving. She came to trust her foster mom’s kindness and the decision was made to not return her to the colony. She has grown so much in that time in her foster home. She has learned that human love and pets are good. Her physical wounds have all healed except a small limp from nerve damage however, she does have some PTSD and if you linger over her neck too long, she will pull away and retreat, but rightfully so. She is learning to play but cat wands and fast movements do still scare her, again rightfully so, as when well-meaning humans were trying to catch her, they chased her. May is ready to find her person. Someone who will give her the love, patience, and time she needs to really blossom in a home of her own. Unfortunately, her foster home has 20 plus cats and kittens in it currently, and that is no place for a wonderful cat like her who deserves peace, love and quiet to really become all she can be. She would be fine with another adult feline friend in the home, however, she would also be absolutely thrilled to be your one and only. She will need a home without dogs and children so she feels the safety she needs and deserves.

She loves lasers and bird watching as well as electronic toys. Cat wands and tossing things scare her but she thinks batting around balls and springs on her own is fantastic. If you are looking for a sweet young girl who really truly deserves a second chance at life, May is your girl.

All cats are vaccinated, dewormed, treated with flea preventative, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, microchipped, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

To apply, simply go to www.furryfriendsnetwork.org / Adopt a Furry Friend / Adoption Application. You will receive a welcome email once your application has been assigned to a volunteer processor (this should be within 72 hours of submitting an application). If you do not receive such an email, contact catapplication@furryfriendsnetwork.com. We are an all-volunteer organization and appreciate your patience during this process.

Foster Homes are needed in order to help more animals like this one. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless animal. Check out our website on how to become a Foster Parent! Visit www.furryfriendsnetwork.org and look under How to Help / Foster Program / Foster a Furry Friend. Furry Friends Network provides our foster homes with food, litter, crates/carriers as needed and miscellaneous other supplies as well as veterinary care.

More about this rescue

Furry Friends Network is a non profit, all-volunteer animal adoption organization. Our philosophy is to help those animals that did not ask to be born, that are often the result of human ignorance. Any animal, no matter its age, can offer love and companionship to the right person.

Furry Friends Network is not a shelter, but instead uses a foster home network to house the animals until permanent, indoor homes can be found, offering second chances at lifetimes of love and happiness. Furry Friends Network also works to help humans understand the importance of controlling the pet population through spaying and neutering.

Furry Friends Network relies on private and corporate donations to help fund our rescue operations and accomplish our mission - to save lives, one animal at a time. Since the organization's inception in 2001, Furry Friends Network has facilitated the rescue, and rehabilitation and placement of approximately 300 homeless dogs and cats into new homes each year. With your support, we can continue to accomplish this mission.

There are many thousands of animal rescue organizations, all working for the same purpose. We hope through our efforts, we will make at least a small difference, and save a few lives in the process.
