This 2-year-old, 11lb Chihuahua mix is as smart and soulful as her name suggests—a true little muse in a tiny package!
Frida was found as a stray with her one-week-old puppy and brought to the Downey Animal Shelter. With no microchip and no one coming to claim her, Shelter Hope took her in and placed her in the safety of foster care, where she lovingly raised her pup like the devoted mama she is.
Now it’s Frida’s turn to shine! Frida is sweet, observant, and incredibly affectionate. She absolutely adores being in your arms and will happily leap into them—she’s quite the little jumper! Whether she’s cuddling close or keeping a careful watch on her surroundings, Frida is always tuned in to her people.
She’s been thriving in her foster home and is ready for the next chapter of her life: a forever home filled with love, security, and soft places to snuggle. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Frida Pawlo is your girl!
More from her foster:
I'm writing to share a bit about Frida Pawlo, who is truly a special dog. She arrived with her puppy, Monet and was initially quite scared and timid, even barking at my husband. However, within just two days, she transformed, jumping onto our laps and giving us kisses.
Frida is incredibly smart, loves spending time in the yard, and is a loyal watch dog. Seeing her gently play with her puppy was absolutely heartwarming. She also has a fondness for sticks, jerky, and plenty of cuddles.

Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers.
Be ready to adopt:
If your application is selected, our rescue counselor will be in touch for a phone interview. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation.
More on our process:
Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!

More about this shelter
Since opening in 2011, Shelter Hope Pet Shop has rescued and re-homed over 16,000 animals.
Located at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks, Shelter Hope is a nonprofit, community-powered dog rescue dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of dogs in need, their adopters, and overcrowded shelters. We facilitate adoptions, welcome volunteers, and are committed to empowering the community through education and awareness.
Shelter Hope rescues strays and surrenders from as nearby as Ventura County and the LA area to as far as Bakersfield, where the community faces a severe animal overpopulation crisis. Moreover, we take in dogs of all ages from overcrowded no-kill and high-kill shelters, as well as from other urgent situations where dogs are at risk. These include often overlooked seniors and those with medical challenges.
While visiting local shelters is always encouraged, Shelter Hope provides a family-friendly, welcoming, retail-style environment where visitors can comfortably meet and connect with rescue dogs. Our thoughtful and thorough adoption process helps ensure each dog is placed in a stable, forever home, reducing the likelihood of them re-entering the shelter system.
Shelter Hope works tirelessly to give dogs in need a real second chance while easing pressure on overcrowded shelters.
Be part of the solution: adopt, don't shop.
