Zuzu: A Highly Sensitive Soul Seeking a Safe Sanctuary
Zuzu is an incredibly sensitive and smart girl whose deep-seated anxiety makes the shelter environment overwhelming and dangerous for her. We are seeking a highly experienced adopter, foster, or dedicated rescue who can provide the quiet, predictable sanctuary Zuzu desperately needs.
Despite the challenges, Zuzu has proven she is capable of being a wonderful, loyal companion in the right setting. She is reported to be house-trained, crate-trained, and a dedicated cuddler who loves to sleep in bed with her person once trust is established. She is highly intelligent and knows several tricks, including sit, paw, sit pretty, and holding a paw up, showing she is highly receptive to positive-reinforcement training. She has even successfully met a consistent person`s family and friends with no issues, showing she can thrive when properly introduced in a secure environment.
Zuzu`s high fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) makes her vulnerable and causes her to react defensively. Her previous foster return was due to two concerning incidents where she growled and nipped at the foster`s boyfriend. These were fear-based defensive reactions triggered by unexpected movements or activities in the home, such as play wrestling or stepping out of a bedroom. In the shelter, she displays clear fear signs (tucked tail, pinned ears) and staff must use extreme patience and high-value rewards to manage her fear.
Zuzu needs a home with one or two extremely consistent, experienced adult handlers who understand dog body language. Her home must commit to strictly managing all interactions and rapid movements until she fully trusts her person. Any new person introduced must be done slowly and carefully. Zuzu is a sweet girl at her core, but she needs a hero who sees her potential, respects her boundaries, and is ready to work with a sensitive dog to help her build lasting confidence.
