My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Sassy was brought in by a community member on July 29, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Sassy! This little wanderer was found shuffling down the road like a tiny adorable outlaw. As a non-native species here in California, she is looking for a secure homestead where she can bask in peace and live her best turtle life. Sassy dreams of a predator-proof outdoor pond with a solid filter or a natural bioactive setup. She's an omnivore, so a diet of turtle pellets with the occasional leafy green or protein snack will keep her shell shiny and her sass strong. Red-eared sliders can live 20+ years, so she needs a long-term partner in crime who's ready for the ride. So saddle up, dust off your boots and bring a secure carrier or box to adopt Sassy today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
